Amed Beach, Ubud

Head out to Jemeluk Bay, a picturesque bay of Amed Beach, for a unique snorkelling experience with beautiful corals and abundant sea life. Go deep into the water to reach an underwater temple with a gallery full of statues of Apart, mermaids, giant baby heads and more. The statues are mostly contributions of Indonesian artists Wayan Winten and Eddi Prabandono. Feel captivated watching the Balinese carvings on the temple exterior. There is also a fully functional underwater mailbox where you can drop waterproof postcards, which can be purchased before the dive. 

Another point of interest on this beach is yet another underwater attraction, USAT Liberty Shipwreck. Go for a wreck dive to reach the US transport ship which was sunk during World War II by a Japanese submarine. It is easily accessible from the shore and even beginners can try reaching the wreck. Admire the wreck transforming into a spectacular artificial reef with colourful corals and shoals of fish, turtles and seahorses swimming around it. Beginners going for this experience must first learn the basics in shallow water and then try diving.

Pay a morning visit to Amed Reef, known for being an area frequented by sea turtles. The reef is also a great place for a diving experience, owing to its warm shallow water and captivating underwater scenery. Both beginners, as well as those with more experience, would enjoy going for a diving experience on this reef.

Salt farming is one of the primary activities of the Amed region, and you will be able to locate bundles of salt being prepared and sold on the road. Watch with fascination how salt farmers carry seawater to one of their salt farms to produce salt from the seawater using bamboo cones. You may opt to purchase some salt from one of the farms and enjoy tasting the purest sea salt.
