Borobudur Temple, Magelang

Dieng plateau is an upland volcanic plain which is famous for its scenery and Hindu temples. The plateau was formed by the eruption of ancient mountain Prau. Javanese Hindus built temples and made Dieng plateau a sacred place. Highlights: Sanjaya Dynasty built the temples here between 8th century to 13th century and they resemble the ones in Prambanan. The temples are named after Javanese Hindu legends which has similarities to Mahabharata and Ramayana. Hundreds of Temples were built but only eight are left today. Visitors can see hot springs, multi-colored lake, a misnomer, candis and some top-down scenery from the peaks here. Fresh air and greenery makes this plateau an enjoyable place and worth a visit for tourists. Location: Dieng plateau is located near Wonosobo, Central Java in Indonesia. Along with the Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and the Myanmar’s Bagan, the Borobudur Temple of Java makes the rest of the South East Asia a spectacular site. It is a 9th century Mahayana Buddhist temple that attracts tourists from far and near. Highlights: Borobudur Temple comprises of six square, three circulars, nine stacked platforms and is towered by the central dome. It is adorned by 504 statues of Buddha and 2672 relief panels. The central dome is enveloped by 72 Buddha statues each of which are seated inside a perforated stupa. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the world.
