Mount Uhud

One of the major Medina tourist attractions is Mount Uhud that commemorates the renowned battle between the Meccan forces and Muslims in 625 CE. You have to ascend a small hill to reach the battlefield’s site and view the burial places of 50 of the Prophet’s companions, most notably his uncle Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib.

Despite the mountain being a steep one, you can find the elderly climbing the mount’s peak during hot weather. It is located in Medina’s North and is only 5 kilometers away from Masjid Al Nabawi, and definitely worth a day trip. 350 meters high, and formed from volcanic rocks including dark green, black and red granite the Uhud was the mountain that loved everyone and was loved by people hence it became the “Heaven Gate. It is home to deep caves and the most notable being Ghar Uhud where the Prophet sought refuge.
