Sitabani Forest Reserve, Jim Corbett

The 18th-century Sitabani Temple is nestled within the Sal-oak canopy of the Sitabani Wildlife Reserve, located approximately 15 to 20 km from Ramnagar. It is said to mark the exile of Sita with her sons Luv and Kush, and holds a lot of mythological significance.A walk through the woods leads to a small complex featuring statues of Sita, Rama, Hanuman, Durga, Ganesha, and a Shivalinga. The carved pillars and a headless Ganesh suggest that it was once a shrine from the Valmiki era.Maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, the reserve boasts over 600 plant species and hosts tigers ( about 35), elephants, leopards, deer, and abundant birdlife.
