About the tour:
One of the greatest cities of the 5th century BC, Vaishali is credited with being the world's first republic to have a duly elected assembly of representatives and efficient administration.

- The place finds mention in the great epic Ramayana.
- Buddha spent the last days of life near the city of Vaishali and Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, was born here.
- Some of the major attractions around Vaishali are Ashoka Pillar, BawanPokhar Temple, and three Buddha Stupas.  

Places covered during the tour

Ashokan Pillar
One of the major highlights of a trip to Vaishali is the Pillar at Kolhua, erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC. This 18.3 m high pillar is made of a highly polished single piece of red sandstone, surmounted by bell-shaped capital. A life-size figure of a lion is placed on top of the pillar. There is a small tank here known as Ramkund.

Shanti Stupa
Located on the south bank of the Abhishek Pushkarini (Coronation Tank) is the Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) built by the Nipponzan Myohoji sect of Japan.

Buddha Stupa - I & II
This stupa was built with the mortal remains of the Buddha enshrined in it. A stupa is an architectural term for a mound containing a relic of the Buddha and later on of leading Buddhist saints. 

Bawan Pokhara Temple
One of the most visited sites in Vaishali is an old temple located on the northern bank of a tank known as Bawan Pokhara. Built during the Pala period, the temple enshrines beautiful images of several Hindu gods.
