Located in the southwest of the country, this road tunnel is a part of the new main highway connecting Oslo and Bergen and was opened in November 2000 to avoid difficult terrains having high risks of rockfalls.

Take a round trip through the tunnel

Experience the mountain from inside the tunnel and outside by going on a round trip. Drive through the Aurland Tunnel and then stop at the fjord in Flåm. Journey back over the spectacular Aurlandsfjellet plateau on the popular Snow Road between Aurlandsvangen and Lærdalsøyri. During your drive through the tunnel, you will find it to be divided into four parts - the main part and its 3 extensions at intervals of 6 km. Observe the main part illuminated with white light with the extensions brightened with blue-yellow light to create the effect of sunrise.

The tunnel is well-famed for its amazing illuminations, which you can witness while travelling through the tunnel. You will find a lighting system simulating natural light at dawn using blue and yellow lighting at various parts of the tunnel.
