Ezhiala is home to the Indian Naval Academy (NAVAC), one of the largest in Asia, and is strategically important. Its history dates back to the Sangha period; it was a major trading port in ancient times and also the site of the battle between the Chola and Chera dynasties in the 11th century. It was also believed to be visited by Gautama Buddha, making it a major attraction for people of Buddhist faith. At the foothills, you can also find burial chambers, carved stone pillars, caves, and granite platforms, providing a glimpse of a time gone by.

The Ettikulam Beach covers the mountains from three sides and is different from the other beaches because of its different texture of sand and the unusually blue water. You can also spot dolphins a the Ettikulam Bay.
