George Street

George Street is one of the busiest and oldest streets in Sydney. The Street passes through the Central Business District of Sydney and it covers a total distance of 3 km. George Street was Sydney's highstreet earlier and it connects most of the iconic attractions of this iconic city to each other. 

George Street begins from The Rocks in the north end and continues till Broadway Ultimo. The entire Street is filled with several multiple national companies, office buildings and shopping centres. The tallest skyscrapers of Sydney are found along this street. 

Besides the tall and modern skyscrapers, George Street also has some of the finest examples of 17th and 18th century Baroque and Romanesque Revival architecture. Some of these include the Queen Victoria Building, the General Post Office, the Strand Arcade, St Andrew's Cathedral and many others. George Street is also home to various noteworthy precincts such as Martin Place, The Rocks, Circular Quay, Cinema District, Sydney Town Hall, Chinatown, Railway Square, Wynyard and Central Station.

• At the South End of George Street is the famous attraction The Rocks. This place is filled with souvenir stores, trendy restaurants, pubs, art galleries and more.
• The Central section of George Street has the popular Sydney Town Hall, Queen Victoria Building shopping centre and St Andrew's Cathedral. 
• George Street has several buildings that are renowned for their architectural designs. Some of the finest examples are the General Post Office, OVB, The Strand Arcade, St Andrew's Cathedral and more.
• Cinema District is located on a hill and earlier used to have three of the largest cinemas in Sydney. Now this Street is filled with pubs, nightclubs, video arcades, fast food restaurants and other entertainment options. 
• The area from King Street to Alfred Street has popular large scale bars, vibrant entertainment options and the famous Martin Place.

The best time to visit George Street is between September to November and February to May. George Street is best explored on foot and the weather during these months is quite comfortable. 

During the day, George Street is open for business from 10 am onwards and depending on the establishment you are visiting the closing time will differ.

1. The best way to explore George Street Sydney is on foot. Hence, be prepared and wear comfortable shoes and clothes, slather on some sunblock and get walking.
2. George Street has several iconic and architecturally magnificent buildings that are right from the 17th and 18th century. Make it a point to explore these buildings. To name a few, Queen Victoria Building, Johnson's Building, Three Wise Monkeys Pub and many more.
3. Make sure to spare 2 to 3 hours if you just want to explore George Street.
