Park Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the largest green spaces in Barcelona. The sprawling park was named after Eusebi Güell, a rich entrepreneur, who commissioned Antoni Gaudi to build a residential complex. The project was stopped in between and Gaudi converted it into a park using the Catalan Modernism architectural style which earned the park as well as Gaudi a lot of fame.

The vast park sits on a hill on the edge of Barcelona and covers 19 hectares of area which is further divided into two parts. While the forest zone spreads over 8 hectares and is filled with lush greenery, the monumental zone is spread over 12 hectares and has pathways along with structures covered with rainbow-coloured mosaics.The palm shaped iron gate, the dragon staircase and the buildings and structures housed inside the park will surely add to your amazement

You will be able to witness several structures and distinct spaces inside the park that have been designed by the legendary architect. These include the colorful Dragon stairways, the Hypostyle Room, Guard Museum and others. By Metro: Reach either Lesseps metro station (Line 3) or Vallcarca metro station (Line 3) by metro rail and walk for 15 minutes to reach the park. From Lesseps metro station, your nearest entrance will be the monumental area main gate. From the Vallcarca metro station, you will be accessing the park from the west.

By Bus: Take bus no H6 or D40 and get down at the Travessera de Dalt bus stop. From the stop, walk for 10 minutes to reach the park either from Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya or from Carrer de Larrard.

The best time to visit the park will be during the opening hours at 9:00 am on weekdays. During that time, the crowd is less and you will not need to wait in the queue for long for your turn. Also, the weather in the morning is pleasant for visiting the outdoor attraction.

Tips to Visit

1. Purchase tickets online before visiting the popular Park Guell and skip the long line that is there at the ticket counter. 

2. Taking the bus from the nearest metro station to go to the park will be faster than walking uphill. 

3. The park is on a hill and you will need to walk a lot, hence, wear sturdy but comfortable shoes. 

4. It is recommended that you cover your head with a hat, your eyes with sunglasses, and put on sunscreen lotion to protect yourself from the heat.

5. Carry water with you to keep yourself hydrated. You can also take along a few snacks to munch in between.
