Know Before You Go

  • Iceland’s weather is very unpredictable. You might have sunshine, rain, and strong winds all in one day. Always carry layered clothing so you can add or remove layers as needed, along with a waterproof jacket, gloves, and a cap. Even in summer, evenings can be cold.
  • In summer, Iceland has almost 24 hours of daylight, which means it never gets fully dark. In winter, there may be only 4–5 hours of daylight, so sightseeing time is shorter. Plan your activities according to the daylight hours of the season you are visiting.
  • The official currency is the Icelandic Krona (ISK). You do not need to carry too much cash because almost every shop, restaurant, and even small cafés accept international debit and credit cards. ATMs are also easily available in towns.
  • Tap water in Iceland is 100% safe and pure to drink. You can refill your bottle at hotels, restaurants, and public taps instead of buying bottled water. This will also help reduce plastic waste.
  • In Iceland, the bill usually includes service charges. Tipping is not required, but you can give a tip if you feel you received excellent service.
  • Iceland’s nature is delicate. Always stick to the paths and viewing platforms provided.
  • Iceland is one of the cleanest countries in the world. Always throw garbage in proper bins.
  • Do not feed, touch, or chase wild animals like birds, seals, or horses. Keep a safe distance for their safety and yours.
  • Whether it’s a glacier walk, a hot spring visit, or a waterfall stop, listen to your guide’s instructions carefully to avoid accidents.
  • Always carry a valid photo ID, such as your passport or a clear photocopy of it, during the trip. It may be required for hotel check-ins, flights, certain tours, or in case authorities request identification.
