The highest Shiva temple in the world, Tungnath Temple, is situated at 3,680 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas, and people often marvel at its beauty during the Panch Kedar Trek. The temple remains closed during the period from December to April and is open from May to November.The 3.5 km Tungnath Chopta Trek begins at Chopta, gradually ascending through rhododendron forests and open meadows, with moderate difficulty and scenic Himalayan views; ideal for spotting birds and soaking in the crisp mountain air. The Tons River is the Yamuna's biggest tributary, starting in the snowfields of Bandarpunch at about 20722 ft. It flows 148 km through pine and rhododendron forests in Jaunsar-Bawar before joining the Yamuna near Kalsi, Dehradun. At Mori, centuries-old temples like Karna's and Duryodhan's stand over traditional villages.Then you go into Grade III–IV rapids, making it perfect for rafting, which runs from May to early July, and expert guides offer multi-day trips with alpine camps and forest treks. In the quieter parts, you can go kayaking, catch and release trout and mahseer, and camp by the river in well-furnished tents. The Cave of Veda Vyasa, located in Mana, is a place of deep spiritual connection and cultural experience. The narrow, old cave (about 5,300 years old) next to the Saraswati River is thought to be where Sage Vyasa dictated the Mahabharata. Additionally, it is believed that he also composed four Vedas, Puranas, and Brahma Sutras, with Lord Ganesha as the scribe here. The ceiling of layered rock looks like palm-leaf manuscripts, which is why it is called "Vyas Pothi." It also has a shrine with statues of Vyasa and Ganesha. People who come to the shrine to pray find peace in its silence, which is thought to be due to its natural soundproofing. You can get here by walking 700 meters uphill from Badrinath, passing Ganesh Gufa, Bhim Pul, and Vasudhara Falls along the way. This makes for a layered journey through myth, devotion, and the beauty of the Himalayas.
