Johari Bazaar

Johari (meaning jewellery) and Bazar (meaning market) is a jewellery market in Jaipur situated near the pink sandstone facade of Hawa Mahal. The market is Jai Singh’s entrepreneurial dream, of having an urban centre with rectangular blocks and symmetrical shop fronts. The remanent of his dream is still in evidence in the rectangular match-boxed structure of the bazaar.

Feel bedazzled as you enter the market and look at array after array of glittering princely jewellery everywhere. Explore the narrow by-lanes of the bazaar where there are a number of craftsmen’s workstations. Observe them as they work on various jewellery pieces such as the exquisite Thewa, Kundan and Minakari works. These pieces of jewellery find their origin in the Mughal era but are still in demand to this date. The craftsmanship has been passed down from generation to generation, retaining the glamour of the bygone eras. 

Apart from jewellery, the lively market also has shops selling textiles, handicrafts, blue pottery, footwear, and more. Jaipuri cotton quilt is another best-selling item at the bazaar.  The market also has some well-known eateries where you can try out several delicious dishes such as Kachori-Samosas and Dahi Vadas.

• Explore the multicoloured lanes of the bazaar to look for Jaipuri bandhej- tie and die sarees, vibrant dupattas, beautiful lehengas, Jaipuri juttis etc.
• Shop for soft cotton quilts known as Jaipuri Rajais which have three layers with the middle one filled with cotton. 
• Admire the famous blue-pottery products of Jaipur, such as dinner sets and other home furnishings items and purchase some for gifts and own use.
• Shop for the ‘laakh ki chudiyan’ which are made of a material called Laakh and glass.
• Try out the mouth-watering street food such as the famous Dahi Vade, Kachori-Samosas, etc.
