The best time to visit the town is from September to May. Nyoma is covered with snow during this period and the weather is worth experiencing. The months between January and March are extremely chilly and unbearable, especially when you are not exposed to extreme cold.

The temperature also reaches minus, but if you love winters and snow then we recommend you get your heaviest woolen wear for the weather.

Travelers Tips Before Visiting Nyoma

Visiting Nyoma is a dream come true, but these tips will surely help you to make your visit worthwhile and risk-free. It is important to follow the guidelines to the T to ensure that you don’t face any difficulty when you are here.

1. Nyoma is located at a high altitude and the temperatures also drop down to minus which can get extremely chilly. It is advisable to carry sufficient woolen clothing and thermal wear. You might experience altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness caused by the low availability of oxygen.

Hence as a general rule, we recommend you climb 2000 feet and then rest for a day or two to get used to the atmospheric conditions.

2. If you are an international tourist then you need to complete the formalities for the permit.

3. You also have to get the inner line permit to get into the town. This permit can be sourced easily by writing a letter to the Leh Municipal office. There are several checkpoints where the permit can be checked, hence it is advised that you make several photocopies just for your safety.

4. Food points at Nyoma are very rare, so it is advisable to carry your food.

5. Carrying medicine here is a must. Medicines for basic medical conditions like stomach ache, fever and cold should be carried. Furthermore, you should also carry medicine for altitude sickness which is very common here.

1. Air: Leh airport is closest to the village of Nyoma. There are direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Leh which makes it accessible. The distance between Leh airport and Nyoma is 167 km which can be covered by road.

2. Rail: The closest railway station to Nyoma in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir is located at a distance of 352 km.

3. Road: There are many taxis and cabs available for you to hop on and reach Nyoma from various parts of the state.
