The ancient town of Pathankot, located in Punjab, is known for its rich heritage and ornate temples and forts. Situated at a height of nearly 1089 ft above sea level, the city is a major commercial centre apart from housing one of the largest army cantonments of Asia. The city is also known as “Cock Neck City” because of its strategic location.
The city is named after the Royal king of Nurpur, Pathania Rajput. This important religious and historical destination is a great place to experience and witness an amalgamation of cultures of three North Indian states of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Pathankot has numerous forts and temples, which are amongst the most important tourist hotspots of the city. Prominent amongst those are the Ashapurni Mandir, Kali Mata Mandir, Shiv Mandir, Shani Mandir, Nurpur Fort and Shahpurkandi Fort.
The city is also famous for housing the Ranjit Sagar Dam which is the highest gravity dam of Asia and a prominent tourist attraction in the city. Moreover, visitors also enjoy a trip to India’s first hydraulic research centre as well as the Dhruva park and the Madhopur Headworks which are believed to have been constructed during the Mughal era.
Pathankot is renowned for its weaving industry especially shawls and Loi’s which are often purchased by tourists. The city is well connected by a network of roads and trains and one can also reach the city by taking a flight. There is a round the clock bus and taxi service available for almost all major cities.
