Cosseted amongst lawns, lakes, and trees in the north central region of Thailand, Sukhothai National Park was the capital of the Sukhothai kingdom that was established in the year 1238. The central area is composed of 21 temples that are enclosed by a deep wide ditch that is filled with water. This was used as a structure to ward off attacks on the structures. The park is located at Sukhothai, Thailand.
Highlights: Rent a bike and explore the ruins of this ancient city and the ruins at Sri Satchanalai Historic Park. It is composed of a total of 193 runs and is a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. The park covers 70km and is demarcated into five main zones- each of which charges a separate entry fee of 100 Baht. The most convenient way to get around is on bicycles which can be hired locally.
Getting there: Sukhothai Historical Park is located about 12km from the ‘new’ city. Hiring a tuk-tuk (motorised three-wheelers) or hopping on a songtaew (passenger-carrying trucks) is the best way to commute between the two sites.
