The Mauritius National Botanical Garden is one of the most interesting and enriching places to visit in Port Louis. Spread over a sprawling lush green landscape, this magnificent garden houses 85 varieties of palms from Central America and from the adjacent islands of Indian Ocean.

The Blue Penny Museum is a must inclusion in your list of Port Louis Sightseeing spots. This museum was inaugurated in 2001 and it is one of the most historically significant museums exhibiting the cultural diversity of the island.

It exhibits the three main colonial rules in the history of Mauritius via incredible layouts, as well as the rare, red-coloured one penny and the blue-coloured two-penny ’Post Office Stamps’, which was issued in 1847. The stamps are lit up at regular intervals to make sure the colours do not fade away.

The Jummah Masjid Mosque is an important landmark and an integral part of your Port Louis Sightseeing tour. Apart from the natural serenity of the place, one of the most unique features of this structure is the architecture of the mosque.

It was built in 1850 and reflects Islamic, Indian and Creole architectural style. Next to the mosque lies the sacred marble tomb of Jamal Shah – a ‘pir’ from Kutch. Aapravasi Ghat is a 150 plus-year-old historic site in the city of Port Louis on the North-western coast of Mauritius. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and holds an important place in the history of Mauritius. Its complex is filled with the ruins of what was built in the 1860s.

In this history, Mauritius was a British Colony and Aapravasi Ghat served as a place of the immigrants and labourers who were brought from various other colonies of the Britishers. The Natural History Museum is one of the most amazing places to visit in Port Louis that interests people of all ages. This museum will take you on a journey about the rich and diverse history of Mauritius. The museum houses priceless artefacts, coins and ancient maps of the island. The remnant of the extinct “Mauritian Dodo” is one of the most striking exhibits amongst all other zoological collections of the Indian Ocean. Recently, an antique train carriage and a replica of Napoleon’s boat has been included in the prestigious gallery of exhibits.
