Established in 1859 by the Maharaja of Travancore, the Thiruvananthapuram Zoological Park spans 30 acres. Initially created for entertainment, it now focuses on wildlife conservation, with a state-of-the-art hospital and skilled veterinary staff ensuring animal care.
Initially housed in iron cages, animals are now kept in enclosures that mimic their natural habitats. The zoo is home to 1,025 animals from 98 species, with a pond for Pelicans, Storks, and Herons. It also boasts over 100 plant species, both exotic and native.
It is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including mammals like Gaur, reptiles like King Cobra, exotic birds like Salmon-crested Cockatoo, and water birds like the Night Heron. The complex also houses the Napier Museum and Sri Chitra Art Gallery, celebrated for their history and culture. Showcasing a rich collection of artistic, cultural, and antique treasures, along with numerous painting masterpieces.
