It’s a Man-Made That is Inspired By Bature

Unlike most architects of his era, Gaudí thought that structures should capture the beauty of the natural world. He got ideas from nature, which can be seen all over Sagrada Família. When he started the project, he used organic shapes that looked like trees and animals in place instead of traditional straight lines. Even the tall centre spire is the same height as Montjuic Hill to honour the beauty of nature.

The inside of the church is designed to look like nature, with columns and arches that look like trees and caves. Weighted strings were used by Gaudí to meticulously examine natural arches, which shaped every interior element of Sagrada Família.

The Concept for La Sagrada Familia Was By a Bookseller

It may come as a surprise to you that Antoni Gaudí wasn't the first person to design the Sagrada Família. The idea came from Josep María Bocabella, a bookshop owner in Barcelona. After seeing the Vatican City in Italy, he was moved to build a big church in Spain.

With a strong commitment to his Catholic religion, Bocabella began building in 1882. To make his dream come true, he collected money in a variety of ways. After taking over the project, Gaudí combined his unique architectural style with Bocabella's vision to create the celebrated masterpiece we know today.

The Sagrada Familia's Builders Are immortalized in Stone

Builders of the Sagrada Família are recognised in a special way here, which you might not know. The building itself has its faces etched into the stone. This custom honours their constant hard work and skill, which helped make Antoni Gaudí's vision come true.

These exquisite stone carvings improve the architecture and connect the workers to the spectacular monument they helped build. This small, secret detail gives Sagrada Família a personal touch and helps people remember and honour the builders' work for years to come.
